Dr. Ellington W. Porter

Article Pic Dr. Ellington W. Porter, Sr.

Rev. Ellington W. Porter, affectionately known by his congregation as Pastor E, is one of the dynamic duos Pastoral dream team at the Genesis Church. Known for his energetic, humorous, yet reality based style of preaching, Pastor E. W. Porter has touched thousands of lives through his ministry.

Born on August 17, 1973, this native Minnesotan learned at an early age that he had an unusual gift of leadership with his peers as well as his elders. At the age of 5, the young E. Porter accepted the call of Christ in his life, and became a young leader of the church as a Junior Deacon under the leadership of his father and Pastor Dr. Robert Porter.

As Rev. E. Porter began to grow older in age and spirit, more responsibility was added to his roster. At the age of eleven Ellington began to study piano, and at thirteen he taught himself how to play the Organ. This was the beginning of what would soon become a gifted ministry of music. Meanwhile, at the age of twelve the young E. Porter along with his brother Tecoy Porter age fifteen (now known as the Porter Brothers) began team ministry. Their father and Pastor appointed them Minister of Music and Lead Musician over all choirs of the Shiloh Baptist Church in St. Paul Minnesota. This indeed was a challenge for these teenage young men, to lead a group of their peers, as well as a group of their elders. But with God's favor, they would meet the challenge with great success.

Pastor E, while in Minnesota completed his elementary, Jr. high, and first year of High School in the St. Paul School District. He and his family later in the year of 1988 relocated to Sacramento, California where hid Graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1991. Rev. Porter has also completed studies in the area of Music at Sacramento City College, and has attended the California State University of Sacramento where he studied vocal Music. Pastor E. W. Porter has also attained an Associates in Music Ministry, Associates in Biblical Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts in Ministerial Studies from the Trinity Life Bible College of Sacramento, California. In 2004 Both Pastor E and Pastor T were commemorated for their Christian leadership by the St. Thomas Christian College and Seminary as they honored them with Doctorate of Divinity Degrees.

After relocating to California, Pastor Ellington continued to be a great support to his Father in his ministry. In 1990 the Lord led Dr. Robert Porter along with 200 members to establish the Genesis Missionary Baptist Church. It is here that the young E. Porter worked closely with his father as an ordained Deacon, lead musician, Sunday school teacher, and Elementary school administrator.

Musically, Rev. Ellington's gifts began to expand into areas of songwriting & record production. In the early 1990's the Lord afforded the ministry team of Tecoy and Ellington Porter to become official with the start of Markee-Wes Production Company. Along with the administrative savvy of Rev. Tecoy' s wife Karlette, this company became the premier academy that featured training in piano, organ, voice, and percussion. They also have produced several recordings in the Northern California Area.

In the fall of 1997, the Lord called Ellington Porter into the preaching ministry. With his acknowledgement and successful preaching of his trial sermon "I Saw The Light", Pastor Ellington was licensed and later ordained by his Father Dr. R. Porter.

It was at the close of 1997 when Rev. E. Porter found his missing rib, in the likeness of a southern belle beauty named Tiwana B. Davis. This wonderfully spirited song bird also knew that God had finally brought her together with her missing body, so on May 29, 1999 the two became one in holy matrimony. From this union they have been blessed with a son Ellington Robert Porter, Jr. who was born August 21, 2005.

It was in that same year of 1999 that Dr. Robert Porter the founder and pastor of Genesis took terminally ill, but with his visionary foresight he prepared the congregation by installing his two young sons (Pastor E & Pastor T) as his assistant Co-Pastors.

Following the death of Dr. Robert Porter in August of 1999, the young Co-Pastors were honored to accept the call to serve as the Sr. Pastors of the Genesis Missionary Baptist Church.

Since that time the Lord has allowed the ministry to continue to move forward in the spirit that it was birthed.
